Growth Persists in the Springfield Metro Area

The U.S. Census Bureau released its 2008 annual population estimates and the numbers reflect continued growth in the Springfield metropolitan area. The five-county Springfield metro area population has grown over 6,000 residents moving the population to 426,144 and making it the fastest growing metro area in Missouri.

Since 2000, the Springfield metropolitan area's population has increased by 57,770 residents, a 15.7% increase. The Springfield metropolitan area is defined by the federal government as Greene, Christian, Webster, Polk and Dallas Counties.

The 10-county region that makes up the Ozarks Regional Economic Partnership, has gained over 7,500 residents since 2007 with the population currently standing at 586,194. This area includes Branson, which is the fastest growing micropolitan area in Missouri.
